- Power supply source: single-phase, AC220V10%, 50/60Hz (can be appointed)
- Gross Weight: 450kg
Application Standards:- BIFMA X5.1 2011
- Reference Doc: BIFMA X5.1 2011 clause 7 Base Test-Static
Procedures:- A chair with casters is mounted on the moveable platform as shown in Figure 13. A 300-pound load is applied to the chair seat with the chair spindle fully extended. The base is attached to a mechanical device that exerts a horizontal push and pull of from 30 inches to 34 inches as illustrated in the figure. The base and casters are free to rotate and swivel. The machine operates continuously at a rate of 8 to 10 cycles per minute with a maximum speed of 50 feet per minute. One cycle consists of a forward and backward stroke of the mechanical device. Testing continues until the base or a caster suffers structural breakage, loss of serviceability, or a failure that would in any way cause personal injury to the occupant or bystanders, or, the desired acceptance level is met.
- BIFMA X5.1 2011 Base Test Procedure
- Remove the casters or glide foot (castors/ glide stems shall remain in place). Caster/ glide stems are required for support. Remove the seat support mechanism and height adjustment mechanism (if applicable) from the base. Apply the load to the vertical support column, or test fixture that simulated the taper/base interface.
- A force of 11,120 N (2500 lbf.) shall be applied for one minute
- Remove the force
- Apply a second force of 11,120 N (2500 lbf.) for one minute
- Remove the load

FAQs of Chair Base Tester:
Q: How does the Chair Base Tester evaluate the strength and durability of chair bases?
A: The device uses static and dynamic load testing methods, applying controlled forces with a high precision load cell to assess a bases performance over repeated cycles. This simulated stress helps determine if a chair base meets industry standards for durability and safety.
Q: What safety features are integrated into the Chair Base Tester for operator protection?
A: Key safety features include an emergency stop function and overload protection. These prevent accidents during testing by ensuring the machine can be quickly halted and that components are not subjected to unsafe loads.
Q: When should manufacturers use this Chair Base Tester in their production process?
A: Manufacturers are recommended to employ the tester during quality assurance stages, either for prototype validation or batch testing prior to market release. This helps ensure every chair base meets international durability standards before distribution.
Q: Where can data from test results be accessed or exported from the Chair Base Tester?
A: Test results can be accessed via the digital LCD display and exported directly through the USB or RS232 interfaces. The included data logging software supports seamless reporting and archiving on connected computers.
Q: What is the operational process for adjusting the fixture to fit different chair base sizes?
A: The fixture features adjustable clamps designed to securely accommodate standard chair base dimensions. Users can modify the clamp position manually, ensuring a stable setup for each unique specimen before starting the test.
Q: How does the included software enhance the testing and reporting process?
A: The supplied data logging software enables automated test recording, cycle tracking, and detailed report generation, ensuring traceable, verifiable results for audits or compliance records.
Q: What benefits does this tester offer to chair manufacturers and exporters?
A: It streamlines quality checks, supports compliance with EN 1335 and BIFMA X5.1, increases testing efficiency with automation, and provides internationally accepted documentationimproving product reliability and market competitiveness.
